Water Tube Boilers
Water Tube Boilers are so called because the water, that we want to turn into steam, is on the inside of the tubes.
The advantages
are:
- Lower water volume for a given steam generating capacity
- Generally lighter than a Fire Tube Boiler of similar output
- Flashes up (=
raises steam) more quickly
The disadvantages are:
- More complex and hence more expensive to build
- More sensitive to fluctuating feed water flow = less forgiving of inattention!
